Looking at recent announcements (not the Jawbone going out of business ones, which may not be factual), there seems to be a bit of a trend developing as to what we are going to get next in Fitness Tracker features (aside from more smartwatch type features).
Battery Life
Xiaomi announced a device with far longer battery life than many Fitness Trackers we are used to. The XIAOMI MI BAND 2 boasts a 20 day life, although this is down from the earlier device that had 30 days, the new device boasts a screen.
Personal Assistant
Not everyones cup of Nutri bullet, but Microsoft announced that its Band 2 integrates with Cortana the Microsoft personal assistant (like Siri?). In other markets Fitbit devices can already link to Amazon's Alexa
Onboard GPS
I love the onboard GPS of my Fitbit Surge and its the one thing that stops me upgrading. Seems Samsung has realised that onboard GPS is a desirable feature for many and has incorporated it into its Fitbit rival the Gear Fit 2.
So Which Features to Add?
So putting all of the above together it looks like manufacturers are hard at work trying to second guess the features that would tempt people to upgrade, change brand or enter the market. The problem for manufacturers is which of the items above will tempt the most people? which feature should manufacturers invest in?
For me to change I would need to keep onboard GPS, add longer battery life, oh and make it properly waterproof please so I can swim with it (sorry that's not in the list above). I'm still not sure the personal assistant is a feature I would leave switched on!
What about you, which features would tempt you to change?
