What Can Affect Fitness Tracker Accuracy?
Fitness Trackers have evolved from relatively simple step counting devices a few years ago, into the complex devices we have today. We're told by the manufacturers that they have a high degree of accuracy but that may not always be the case. If we think about it we are all made slightly differently (even if we were the same weight and height) and we all move differently. Therefore to expect our wearable devices to be 100% accurate may be expecting too much.
Even though this is the case, there some things that you can do (or not do) to give your device the best chance at giving you the most accurate readings it can. As a final thought in this section, consider that accuracy per se may not be essential, as long as the readings are consistent. i.e. if you walked 7,000 steps yesterday and your tracker says you did 7 km, but in the real world you walked 4.75 km, does it matter? You still walked 7,000 steps and if you walk 7,500 today, you have been more active, which is really what its all about. |
